Let’s get real!

It is time for us to ‘wise up’ on our spiritual condition and the responsibilities of discipleship. How many times have we read quickly through the parables about the ten virgins, the talents and the sheep and goats and simply treated them as good stories that apply to others?

Look closely at them and you will see Jesus is showing us the blueprint for preparation for life in His eternal kingdom. The parable of the ten virgins highlights the need to be diligent in providing for our spiritual needs; the story of the talents shows our involvement in the advancement of God’s cause, and the story of the sheep and goats shows us our responsibility to the needs of others.

All that we accumulate here on this earth is a gift from God to use or abuse. We can take none of it to heaven! Please read the parables again carefully and let Jesus speak directly to your heart. Let the Holy Spirit show you how to turn the accumulated gifts God has given into treasure in His kingdom.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:21

Familiarity not only breeds contempt it becomes an excuse for setting aside the place of God in your life. Llew Edwards continues his series in the gospel of Mark and explores the story of Jesus’ visit to his home town of Nazareth [Mark 6:1-6]

Crieff Hillwalkers ~ July

Destination to be determined….

For the second month in a row the sun shone and we could see something from the summit. A surprisingly easy day – helped by the fact you start at a car park some 600m up. Did the Cairn Gorm part in a few hours – possibly the dullest hill we’ve ever been up. Then the walk out to MacDui on the flat plateau. Superb views from MacDui across the Lairig Ghru. Next time we’re up here we’ll do the other side…

Steve P, Steve L, Llew and Tiny The Dog.

Our original plan was to head to Glencoe but the weather in the west was a bit dreich so we stayed closer to home and went up two summits near Killin, Creag Mhor (1048m) and Beinn Heasgarnich (1076m).

It was hot, even though snow was on the ground at altitude. We got to see the view from the summit – a novelty…

Mike, Steve L, Wendy – her last climb with us – did the two summits along with Tiny The Dog. Jen and Etien P did the first (Creag Mhor) with Mabel the Hound.

A mixed day up Glen Nevis.  The weather was perfect and we were doing sort-of OK for people who clearly aren’t fit enough.  We were approaching the first summit on the Mamores ridge when Tiny The Dog rather badly injured her leg.  Steve turned round and took Tiny down, whilst the rest headed for the first summit.  However the snow and ice was a bit too tricky for those who were without crampons and they to descended.  But what a beautiful place Glen Nevis is…
